Aska Karem is a Sorani Kurdish actor, writer, and director based in Sydney. Her work spans both screen and stage, exploring identity, love, displacement, and the quiet strength born from survival. She tells stories that carry the heartbeat of culture and memory, weaving personal truth into universal emotion.

She has written and directed short films such as For My Land Kurdistan, Brown Eyes, and Covid and I, collaborating with diverse creatives across film, theatre, and screen. Her latest film The Effect, which she wrote, directed, and produced, is currently in post-production. The film explores trauma and men’s mental health, and the ways pain and healing are carried through generations.

Aska is drawn to films inspired by true stories and lived experience, especially those that reflect culture, belonging, mental health, and the unspoken struggles within different communities. She has completed several courses at NIDA and the Australian Institute of Music, and has trained with leading industry coaches. Aska brings authenticity, depth, and emotional precision to every performance.

Her screenplay First Date received the First Born Writers Award, highlighting her distinct storytelling voice rooted in empathy, resilience, and human connection. Whether performing, writing, or making films, Aska’s work celebrates truth in all its raw and beautiful forms.
